A photo of a wisdom tooth after the extraction

Sometimes, teeth need to be removed to ensure the overall health of a patient’s mouth. In these situations, dentists advise teeth extraction. In most cases, the term ‘teeth extraction’ refers to impacted wisdom or the third molar teeth. The third molars are the last set of teeth to erupt. These teeth can be the cause of pain and discomfort if they are not positioned correctly. Wisdom teeth which are misplaced also can have a negative impact on the health of surrounding teeth.

There are also other reasons for teeth extraction aside from a crowded mouth. Those reasons include infection or risk of infection and periodontal disease.

Our Doral dentists and oral surgeons perform tooth extractions. Before the procedure, our patients receive i-CAT 3D dental imaging examination to better target the area that needs intervention. The first part of the procedure involves an injection of a local anesthetic to numb the area where the tooth will be removed. The next step is the removal itself.
